Goodwick United see off Carew challenge

GOODWICK United fought off the challenge of Carew on Saturday (Mar 11) as they earned a 4-2 win to maintain their six point lead at the top of Division 1.

The league leaders had won the reverse fixture by the same scoreline but they came up against a Carew side bouyed by their West Wales Cup win over Evans and Williams the previous weekend.

However, just two minutes in to Saturday’s game it was Goodwick who took the lead as Haworth set up Scott Delaney to score.

Carew hit back though with Sonny Phillips scoring to level the game at 1-1.

Nathan Greene then scored off another assist from Haworth to restore Goodwick’s lead.

With a minute to go until the break Shaun Whitfield sent the ball in for Adam Muskett and he scored to level the game once more.

The scoring wasn’t done there though and in injury time, Will Haworth sent a free kick into the box which Nathan Greene headed in to put Goodwick back ahead.

It was still all to play for as the second half got underway but nine minutes in Dan James scored to give the league leaders a two-goal advantage.

Despite their efforts Carew were unable to find a way back into the game and Goodwick saw the game out for their sixteenth win of the season.

On Saturday, March 18, Goodwick United host Pennar Robins while Carew visit Merlins Bridge.
