Lawrenny sit top after 10-wicket win over Burton

LAWRENNY sit top of the Division 1 table after three games following their 10-wicket win over Burton on Saturday (May 6).

They won the toss and chose to field and they were able to bowl Burton out for 156 in the 44th over.

Toby Hayman and Jack Davies shared an opening stand of 26 runs but Hayman was the first man out as he was caught by James Phillips off the bowling of Jamie Lewis.

Jonathan Venables was out for a duck, also to Lewis, and Richard Jones was bowled by Finley Lewis.

Jack Davies had been getting most of the runs for the home side as he made his way to a score of 89 with fourteen fours and a six but he was then trapped leg before by Rob Williams.

Williams also had Martin Jones for a duck and Jamie Lewis then had Morgan Scale caught by Phillips.

Luke Hayman added 21 before also falling to Jamies Lewis and Robert Webb scored 14 before he was caught and bowled by Troy Purslowe.

There were further wickets for Ryan Morton and Purslowe as Lawrenny set themselves a target of 157 to win the game.

Harry Thomas and Kyle Marsh were untroubled by the Burton bowlers as they guided their side to victory inside 28 overs.

Thomas finished unbeaten on 58 while Marsh was unbeaten on 95, unlucky not to score a century.

Lawrenny’s second win of the season sees them top the table after the first three games. On Saturday, May 13, Burton visit Carew while Lawrenny host Neyland.
