League 1 West: Crymych see off challenge of Hendy

CRYMYCH remain top of League 1 West after they beat Hendy 19-33 on Saturday (Apr 8).

It was the Pembrokeshire side who got the first score of the game as a great run from Ned Bennett got them going and he offloaded to Tomos Phillips who in-turn found Dafydd Phillips who scored the try.

Lee Griffiths then went over for Crymych’s second try and the conversion made it 0-14 to the league leaders.

Hendy hit back with a try of their own but Griffiths added a second shortly before the break to give his side a 7-19 lead.

In the second half, Crymych earned a bonus point as Dylan Landre touched down for their fourth try of the game. The extras were added to take the score to 7-26.

Hendy responded again with their second try but Crymych then stretched their lead further with a try scored by Gethin Gibby.

The home side added a third try late on but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback and Crymych secured their fourteenth win of the season.

On Saturday, April 15, Crymych host Pembrokeshire rivals Whitland.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Newcastle Emlyn remain level on points with Crymych after they beat Llanelli Wanderers 59-10.

Llyr Jones, Aled Sion and Aled Jones were among the try scorers for Emlyn while conversions and penalties came from Shaun Leonard.

Their next game sees them host third placed Gowerton.

Gowerton beat Felinfoel 25-17 last weekend while Gorseinon earned an 80-0 win away at Pembroke.
