Saints seal narrow win over Quins

ST Davids earned their third win of the season on Saturday (Dec 10) as they beat Pembroke Dock Quins 12-10.

On an extremely cold day it was the Quins who were first out of the blocks as they choose to kick to the corner from early penalties, but failed to take advantage as the Saints defence was solid.

On 10 minutes the Quins took the lead with a superb threequarter movement which ended with Right Wing Kobie Thomas touching down in the corner. Outside Half Euan McDonald missed the conversion.

Five minutes later Full Back Adam Phillips stroked over a 25-yard penalty to reduce the arrears for his side to 3-5.

Neither side was giving a inch, Quins close range attacks came to nothing as the Saints defence held superbly.

As the end of the half was approaching the Saints took the lead with a fine long range penalty from Adam Phillips to give his side a narrow 6-5 lead.

The second half started with with the Saints on the attack and it was not long before Adam Phillips once again punished the Quins with a well struck penalty to push his sides lead out to 9-5.

With both sides defences on top it was difficult to see were a try was coming from, but with just 10 minutes left a bit of inspiration and determination from Centre Geriant Powell whose perfect grubber kick and follow up enabled him to pop the ball into the hands of 2nd Row Hywel Baker who crashed over in the corner to put the Quins into a 9-10 Lead. Euan Macdonald missed the Conversion.

With time running out, Phillips landed another penalty to edge the Saints back in front. There were calls from the Quins that the kick had gone wide but the referee gave it.

The Quins had to take it on the chin as they tried desperately to pull the game out of the fire. The game ended inside the Saints 25 as the Referee blew for full time.

On Saturday, December 17, Pembroke Dock Quins host Laugharne while St Davids visit Tregaron.
