Whitland ladies reach Principality with semi-final win over Lampeter

WHITLAND booked their place in the final of the WRU Women’s Plate on Sunday (Mar 5) as they beat Lampeter 36-10.

Whitland made the trip up to Lampeter but the rain made the pitch sticky and difficult to run on.

Despite this it was a cracking display by the whole team with some great interlinking play and great carrying from the pack.

Whitland have only played four league games this season, their last league game coming on November 13 against Burry Port. Their last game of any sort came in the Plate a week later against the same opposition and the team were pleased to be back in action.

It was a mix of forwards and backs that scored, the first coming from hooker Amy Morgan, who was given the ball and she ran a cracking line to score, giving Lampeter no chance of stopping her.

The other tries were scored by Marged Williams (12) who scored twice, one being her usual interception try from Lampeter’s half way line. Ceulyn Davies (13) also scored one and flame-haired winger Danielle Lawrence scored twice.

Three conversions came from the boot of Second Row Macey Bowen.

Whitland will now play Burry Port in the final at the Principality Stadium on April 1, with a 3:15ko.
