Wizards come from behind to stun Carew

MERLINS Bridge came from two goals down on Saturday (Mar 18) to beat Carew 3-2 in Division 1 of the Pembrokeshire League.

Carew had won the game between the two sides earlier in the season but they came up against a Bridge side who were looking for another win to keep their title hopes alive.

However, Dylan Morgan scored after 12 minutes to put Carew ahead and Archie Smith added a second on the half hour mark to put the visitors in a strong position.

Five minutes before half time the Wizards pulled a goal back as Lewis Miller scored his third goal in as many games to make it 2-1.

Carew enjoyed a good spell at the start of the second half as Smith crossed into the box for Adam Muskett but he could not get a shot away. Two further crosses and a resulting corner were dealt with by the Bridge defence.

The Wizards then thought they had the equaliser as Dai Davies headed a cross goalwards. The ball was pushed onto the underside of the bar by Carew keeper Tom Davies and it dropped down before being cleared away. No goal was given and the score remained 2-1.

Miller then saw a shot go wide before Alfie Stottor crossed to the back post but Tom Jago could not get on the end of it and he was unfortunate to collide with the post in doing so. He was ok to carry on.

Will Evans then saw a shot blocked but with just over twenty minutes to go, Stottor curled an excellent effort into the top corner to level the game at 2-2.

James Hinchliffe then saw a header saved for Carew but back came the Bridge and Evans again found Stottor but his cross-come-shot was saved.

It looked as if the game would finish level but in added time, sub Josh Silk got the winning goal for the home side.

The Wizards sit six points behind leaders Goodwick and only have two games left to play. They would need to win those well and hope that Goodwick lose all three of their remaining games to claim the Division 1 title.

On Saturday, March 25, Merlins Bridge visit Clarbeston Road while Carew travel to St Ishmaels.
