Police alerted by strong smell of weed from car parked in Tesco car park

Antonio Rodrigues pleaded guilty to the charge

When police smelt a strong whiff of weed emanating from a car parked in Tesco’s car park, Haverfordwest, they promptly went to investigate.

And sitting in the driver’s seat of the Renault Twingo was 25-year-old Antonio Rodrigues of John Lewis Street, Milford Haven.

“There was a smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle so a roadside breath test was taken,” Crown Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told Haverfordwest magistrates this week.

The test proved postive and Rodrigues was taken to Haverfordwest police station for further tests to be carried out. These confirmed he had 7 mcg of cannabis in his blood. The legal limit is 2.

Rodrigues pleaded guilty to the charge of drug-driving and he was represented in court by solicitor, Mr Michael Kelleher.

“He’d taken the cannabis nearly 24 hours before he was stopped, so he’s yet another person who’s fallen foul of the law because of the length of time,” he said.

Rodrigues was fined 120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
