Patient Dies After Jumping from Roof of Morriston Hospital
A PATIENT has tragically died after jumping from the roof of Morriston Hospital, one of Wales’ largest medical facilities.
South Wales Police were alerted to the situation at 11.44pm, following reports that a patient had accessed the roof of the hospital. A specialist negotiator was promptly deployed and began engaging with the individual, a 58-year-old man from Port Talbot.
Despite the efforts of the negotiator, the situation took a devastating turn. At approximately 3.20am, the man jumped from the roof, suffering fatal injuries. In a statement, South Wales Police confirmed the incident, adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
As is standard procedure in such cases, the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for an independent review. Swansea Bay University Health Board has been approached for comment regarding the incident.
34-Year-Old Man Found Dead on Footpath in Morriston
In a separate incident, a 34-year-old man was discovered unconscious on a footpath in Morriston during the early hours of Saturday, 17th August.
The man, who police described as local to the area, was found on the path between Morriston Rugby Club and the nearby football club. He was swiftly transported to Morriston Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A police cordon was established at the scene by midday on Saturday, with officers conducting enquiries to piece together the circumstances of the man’s death. South Wales Police have issued an appeal to the public for any information that might assist in their investigation.
Both incidents have cast a shadow over the Morriston community, with residents awaiting further details as investigations continue.
