Pontyates man sent to Crown for alleged breach of Sexual Harm Prevention Order

RICHARD WILLIAMS, 38, of Bryndolau, Pontyates, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on 3rd September 2024 facing charges related to breaches of a sexual harm prevention order. The charges relate to two alleged incidents in which Williams is accused of violating the terms of the order, which was imposed by Swansea Crown Court on 31st March 2021.

The first charge accuses Williams of having contact with a known sex offender between 1st April and 30th July 2024, which he was prohibited from doing under the conditions of his sexual harm prevention order. However, this offence was subsequently withdrawn and no plea was entered.

Williams also faces a second charge of deleting internet data, specifically WhatsApp messages from his phone, between 14th and 26th April 2024. This action was in violation of the same sexual harm prevention order, which prohibited the deletion of such data.

The court heard that Williams did not provide a plea during the initial hearing, and the case has now been committed to Swansea Crown Court for trial. Magistrates Mrs H Meade, Mr C Jones, and Mr P Casey presided over the hearing, with Alex Scott Gomer Williams representing the defence and Sian Vaughan prosecuting on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Wales (South West).

Williams has been granted unconditional bail until the next hearing, which is scheduled for 4th October 2024 at Swansea Crown Court. The hearing, set to last 30 minutes, will be a plea and trial preparation session. It will take place at The Law Courts, St. Helens Road, Swansea, with Williams required to attend. The case is being sent for trial under Section 51(1) and (2)(b) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

No pre-sentence report (PSR) has been ordered at this stage, and there has been no indication given regarding any victim personal statements.
