Ruthless Cefn Cribwr end Cwm’s good run

CWMAMMAN United’s recent good run of form came to an abrupt end when they came up against a well organised and ruthless Cefn Cribwr side at Grenig Park.

Cwm were without Ryan Thomas, Leon Croucher and Lewis Taylor but went into the match full of confidence and started well as usual but found it did not last and it required a goal line clearance from Ronan Templeton in the 10th minute to keep things even.

Cefn Cribwr had a strong height advantage overall and this meant that the Cwm defence with Grant Rees, Templeton, Cory Saunders and the industrious Ethan Taylor were being tested at set pieces and in the 16th minute Craig Wilcox nipped in between two defenders to head home from a corner.

While Cwm were competing well for the ball they were struggling to create in the final third and disaster struck when the influential Charlie Davies had to leave the field in the 20th minute.

Both sides battled for supremacy and Cwm saw a few crosses fizz across the opponents goalmouth while Kai Rees was called upon to make an excellent save tipping it over the bar.

The second half saw the visitors take control from the 47th minute when Wilcox found himself free on the right and fired a rasping shot that beat the despairing dive of Rees for 2-0.

Cwm were chasing the game with Ross Morgan and Rhys Griffiths pushing the team forward but the game was effectively done in the 57th min when a superb long range shot from Isidoro-Marlowe dipped under the bar for a stunning goal.

The home side rang the changes bringing on Jesse Howell, Harrison Thomas, Scott Jewell and Jordan Sullivan but Cefn Cribwr had the last word when a defensive mix up saw Wilcox complete his hat trick with a simple walk in for a well deserved victory.

Cwm slip one place to 12th while Cefn climb to 7th with a few games in hand on the teams above them. A disappointing day for Cwm but they will dust themselves down for the visit of 4th placed Caerau Ely to Grenig on Saturday, March 4, 2pm.
