Serial thief jailed for Tesco Express crime spree

A SERIAL thief has been jailed after repeatedly targeting the same shop, stealing goods worth more than £4,000.

Daniel Rice, 30, of Morlais Road, Penlan, Swansea, carried out 16 separate thefts at the Tesco Express in Treboeth. Among the stolen items were chocolate, boxes of Stella lager, cleaning products, and chilled meats.

Sergeant Craig Evans said: “Daniel Rice’s crime spree targeted the same store time and time again, causing misery for staff. Following a thorough investigation by our Operation Viscaria team, in particular PCs Pearson and Fritche, we are pleased that the store will no longer have to worry about him as he begins his sentence in prison.”

Swansea Magistrates’ Court heard that Rice committed the thefts to fund an addiction. He pleaded guilty to 16 offences of shop theft and was sentenced to six months in prison.

In addition, Rice was handed a three-year criminal behaviour order, banning him from entering Tesco Express.
