Swansea man pleads guilty to making indecent images of children

LEE BROADBENT, of Maesderi, Hendy, Swansea, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on 3rd September, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges of making indecent images of children. The charges, brought by Dyfed-Powys Police, relate to offences committed between 30th November 2015 and 6th April 2022 at Broadbent’s residence.

The 47-year-old admitted to making indecent photographs of children, categorised as A, B, and C under the Protection of Children Act 1978. Category A images are the most severe, involving the most serious forms of abuse.

Broadbent, whose guilty plea was indicated at the first hearing, was committed to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing. The case will be heard on 24th September 2024. He has been released on unconditional bail until the sentencing date.

The magistrates—Mrs H Meade, Mr C Jones, and Mr P Casey—ordered a pre-sentence report (PSR) and confirmed that Broadbent is required to register with the police under the Sexual Offences Act. Broadbent has been instructed to report to Dafen Police Station and must remain on the register until the case is concluded.

The hearing at Swansea Crown Court is expected to last 30 minutes, where Broadbent will be sentenced under Section 14 of the Sentencing Act 2020.

Broadbent’s solicitor, Jess Smith of Gomer Williams, did not present any mitigation at this stage.

Sian Vaughan prosecuted the case for the Crown.
