City businesses to get new skills in bid to go net zero

Workforces across Swansea are to be given new skills to help cut carbon emissions. They’re being invited to send delegates on a free course to help them train workmates to push towards the city’s net zero target.

The three-hour city centre course – on October 25 – is being delivered by Swansea Council in association with Future Clarity, a Welsh business focused on sustainable futures.

Andrea Lewis, the council’s joint deputy leader and cabinet member for service transformation, said: “I’m confident that SMEs and others will find this course useful in their journey to decarbonisation.

“As the council is doing, it’s crucial that local business takes positive action towards becoming net zero.

“As part of our aim to make the city net zero carbon by 2050, we’re committed to helping businesses become more climate and carbon aware.”

The council-accredited course – Towards Carbon Zero: Train the Trainer – is due to run at the HQ Urban Kitchen, Orchard Street, Swansea, on October 25 at 9.30am. Guests can be from the business community or the third sector.

It aims to help SMEs plan for the future by showing staff how to train colleagues to save energy, reduce waste and cut carbon emissions. It will offer practical solutions.

It’s also a chance to meet others on their journey to future proofing enterprises in a rapidly changing world whilst staying competitive.

It’s ideal for those who already have experience in delivering training, an interest in climate change and who want to assist businesses in Swansea to reach net zero.

The course is part of a suite of council initiatives designed to help businesses thrive as the council aims to achieve net zero by 2030. The council wants the city to be net zero by 2050.

This course is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
