PONTARDDULAIS RFC are the latest recipients of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions fund.
The developer’s West Wales business has announced a long-term partnership with the local rugby club, providing over £2,000 in funding to support the ‘Bont’.
This partnership will supply new kit for the youth team and training attire for the seniors, showcasing the housebuilder’s commitment to supporting community sports in the area.
Established in 1881, the club has two senior teams, a women’s team, a youth team, and eleven junior sides. Their first men’s team play in the WRU Men’s Admiral National Leagues.
Persimmon Homes currently has an application for bringing over 500 high-quality, much-needed, zero-carbon ready homes to the town, which is currently with Swansea Council for determination.
The plans include a primary school, a community building, housing association properties, parks, playing fields, and financial contributions to outdoor sports and public transport improvements in the area.
The five-star developer donates £48,000 to good causes and much-valued organisations across Wales each year. The housebuilder has also recently supported Pontarddulais Cricket Club and the Pontarddulais Agricultural Show.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes West Wales’ sales director, Sharon Bouhali, said: “Persimmon has exciting plans in Pontarddulais so I am delighted we have been able to support a strong local institution like the rugby club.
“The club shows its popularity not only in its local support but the several teams it fields to play on behalf of the club – it feels like half the town plays for them!
“Were Persimmon successful in bringing new homes to meet housing need in the town, it is almost a certainty that they will be home to future players and supporters for Pontarddulais RFC.
“We wish the club the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
Huw Thomas – Director, Secretary and Club Operations Manager, Pontarddulais RFC – said: “The club is thrilled that its Community Champions application was successful and we are very grateful to Persimmon for their support.
“It takes a lot of work for our club like ours to run smoothly and donations like these are a real help to us as we aim to deliver a great environment for our fans, staff, and players.”
