Jill Davies from Clydach in Swansea hosted a festive craft fair event at Morriston Golf Club and raised almost £500 for Asthma + Lung UK to help fight lung disease.
An event helping to spread some festive cheer and bringing a community together has raised almost £500 for Asthma + Lung UK, a leading charity that campaigns for better care and awareness for 1 in 5 people living with lung conditions.
The craft fair offered a treasure trove of unique Christmas gifts, including jewellery, home décor, sewing and weaving creations, clothing, bath and body products, and other handmade goods. It’s an annual tradition for the charity event organiser, Jill. She gives back to causes she cares about every year despite having multiple health issues.
Charity event organiser, Jill Davies from Clydach in Swansea said:
“I give back to a charity I care about and run this event annually. It’s important to me as
I suffer from asthma and COPD. I’ve lived with asthma all my life, and 14 years ago, I was diagnosed with COPD, so I know the challenges people with lung conditions face.
“Since having Covid for the fourth time last year, I really struggled with breathing. I felt that my GP surgery, although sympathetic, was not really helping me to manage my condition. It’s been very frustrating. After some back and forth asking for more help, I’ve been moved to a respiratory clinic, which is helping so much.
“I now get regular lung function tests and reviews with the specialist asthma nurse who has altered my medication and monitors me regularly. I’m still struggling, but at least I feel I’m getting help and support at Morriston Hospital.
“Winter is such a difficult time for people with lung conditions, I’m so grateful my family, friends and the community who came together to help raise funds for a charity that’s so personal to me. Thank you to all the lovely crafters, all the lovely customers who came and to Morriston Golf Club for accommodating us. I look forward to organising next year’s event; watch this space!
