IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea to welcome some of the world’s top professional triathletes

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea has been confirmed as one of eight  IRONMAN 70.3 triathlons that will form part of the prestigious IRONMAN® Pro Series™ next year. The  IRONMAN Pro Series, which is currently in its inaugural year, is a performance-based world series  that sees athletes race against each other for points and prize money in a bid to become IRONMAN  Pro Series champion and take home a share of a USD $1.7 million in year-end bonus pool payouts.

The 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series will be contested over 18 events and 17 race locations, including a  combination of six IRONMAN and eight IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlons from around the globe, inclusive of IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea, as well as the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship women’s and men’s  races and VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon.

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea is quickly becoming a must-do race for athletes from the UK as the race has  sold out in each of the first three editions so far, with a strong contingent of Welsh athletes. The race  begins in the Prince of Wales Dock, before athletes head onto the beautiful bike course which takes in  much of Mumbles and the Gower’s coastal clifftops. The run also showcases the beauty of the local  coastline as athletes head along the beach front. Swansea is the second largest city in Wales and the  twenty-fifth largest city in the United Kingdom and the IRONMAN 70.3 courses aim to show off much of  the majesty of the Welsh countryside.

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea Race Director Rebecca Sutherland said: “We are very excited that  IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea will be on the 2025 Pro Series Calendar. After only three years this race  has become a staple on the UK calendar selling out every edition so far. The pro athletes always love  racing in Swansea, and we can’t wait to showcase to the world what the local area has to offer!”

All 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series races will be open to the approximately 1,000 eligible professional  triathletes worldwide, pitting the world’s best against talented rookies throughout the year. The deep  professional fields have been a major feature of the 2024 IRONMAN Pro Series, so Swansea can  look forward to witnessing some of the world’s top professional triathletes put on an epic racing  showdown.

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea along with all other IRONMAN Pro Series races will be broadcast for free  across multiple platforms, including proseries.ironman.com, DAZN and l’Équipe in France amongst  others, meaning Swansea will have eyes of the Global triathlon world watching on!

At each of the 18 designated IRONMAN Pro Series events, professional athletes will earn points based  on their finish times to count towards a final series ranking. A first placed finish earns maximum points  – 5,000 points for an IRONMAN triathlon and 2,500 points for an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon, while winning  the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship triathlon will earn 6,000 points and the VinFast IRONMAN  70.3 World Championship triathlon will earn 3,000 points. Every Second Matters™ in the IRONMAN  Pro Series, with every second between the race winner and other finishers equating to a point won or  lost. In 2024, this points-based system has led to some of the fastest, closest and most dynamic racing  consistently witnessed on IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 race courses.

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea is currently open for age-group registrations and interest in these events is  incredibly strong, with age-group athletes able to race on the same course as professionals taking on the  IRONMAN Pro Series. Those signing up to age-group races alongside the 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series  between now and October 6, 2024, will receive an IRONMAN Pro Series bucket hat as a gift.
