A 32-YEAR-OLD man, Oliver Monaghan, appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Tuesday (Nov 5) to face multiple serious charges, including rape, intentional strangulation, and possession of cannabis.
The first indictment accuses Monaghan of attempted rape, as well as non-consensual penetration of the victim’s anus and mouth. Prosecutors allege these acts were committed without reasonable belief that consent had been given. Additionally, Monaghan is charged with intentional strangulation and criminal damage, involving the destruction of the victim’s mobile phone and bedside cabinet. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges in this indictment.
A separate charge of possession of cannabis, a Class B drug, was also brought against Monaghan. He has admitted to this offence, entering a guilty plea.
During the trial period, Monaghan will reside at a family member’s address, as stipulated by his bail conditions. The trial is set to commence on Monday (June 30) next year.
