Treharris Athletic 1-2 Mumbles Rangers
TWO second half goals from Mumbles Rangers striker Elliot Smith ensured that Rangers completed their inaugural season in the Ardal Southern SW League in a very creditable ninth position.
For the home side Myles Corson opened his side’s scoring in the twelfth minute when the Rangers defence was caught out and a cross shot from Corson found the back of the visitors net.
Rangers tried to bounce back and had half chances but not the bounce of the ball on bone hard pitch under the very sunny blue sky. The home side held the lead for the rest of the first half.
The second half saw Rangers try to break the home defence down whilst maintaining their own solidity at the back.
Rangers Captain Jordan Lloyd-Evans epitomised his team’s drive and determination as he battled for control of the midfield.
Rangers brought on substitute Declan Banfield for the last twenty five minutes to bolster the team.
In the 82nd minute Rangers produced the best intricate pass and movement of the game with some neat one touch football that culminated in Rangers Striker stroking the ball into the net to level up the game.
Rangers energy levels were boosted and four minutes later Rangers Elliot Smith shook the home defence by scoring his second goal of the game.
Rangers were now in control and their game management saw them through to the final whistle.
An excellent winning performance from Rangers who will take this into next season.
Rangers supporter, media person and committeeman commented after the game said: “It has been a fantastic first season for Mumbles Rangers in their inaugural season in Tier 3 of Welsh League football and we have finished in a creditable 9th place.
“Treharris Athletic is a difficult place to come and get a result and I thought the lads stuck to their task today and got their rewards in the end. There’s a feel good factor around Mumbles Rangers Club and we hope to build upon what we have learned this season and for me let’s do it all again next season.”
