A LOCAL opticians has celebrated a year of providing high-quality eye and hearing care to the local community.
Located at 10 Newton Road, the Specsavers Mumbles store opened last November following a £420,000 investment by Chris Jones, Lyndsay Hewitt and Dr Philip Jones, who are also directors of Specsavers Swansea Kingsway.
To mark its one-year anniversary, the Mumbles team invited customers into the store on Wednesday 27 November to celebrate with balloons and a cake sourced from a local bakery, Davies of Mumbles.
The store has three optical test rooms, including state-of-the-art hospital grade technology, such as an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, which can screen and help to manage conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Audiology services are also available in-store once a fortnight.
Customers were encouraged to bring along non-perishable food items to donate to the Linden Church West Cross food bank, which the store is acting as a collection point for until mid-December.
The food bank collection drive was organised by the store’s community champion, Marisha Rayner, and wider team as part of Specsavers’ commitment to giving back to the local community.
The following day, the team reflected on the highlights of the past year while enjoying a pizza lunch and later added the finishing touches to the store’s Christmas decorations in time for the Mumbles Christmas lights to be turned on.
Chris Jones, retail director says: ‘We’re thrilled to be celebrating our first anniversary here at Specsavers Mumbles. It’s been an incredible year serving our wonderful community and we’re grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received.
‘We’re also very proud to support our local food bank throughout the winter period and help those who need it most. We encourage anyone who is able, to drop off an item or two on their next visit to the store. All donations will be very much appreciated.’
Specsavers Mumbles is open seven days a week. To find out more and book an appointment, visit Specsavers’s Mumbles page.
