FUNDING from National Grid Electricity Distribution’s Community Matters Fund supported charity Swansea MAD’s work with young people to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to life.
Through group workshops and one-to-one support, young people gained hands-on experience of digital equipment and software. Young people were able to develop new digital skills and explore how technology can be used in different careers in the future.
Ellie Patey, Community Engagement Manager for National Grid Electricity Distribution, said: “Inspiring the STEM leaders of tomorrow supports their development and helps to shape a cleaner energy future.
“It is anticipated 400,000 roles are needed between now and 2050 to reach the UK’s net zero targets.
“I’m delighted to see how Swansea MAD has used our Community Matters Fund to open the eyes of a new generation to the possibilities of a career in STEM.”
Rachel Benson, Fundraising and Sustainability at MAD Swansea, said: “We’d like to thank National Grid Electricity Distribution for their generous support which has widened access to STEM for young people at Swansea MAD, providing engaging activities and memorable experiences.”
National Grid Electricity Distribution’s Community Matters Fund has awarded more than £10 million to charities and community groups across South Wales, the South West and the Midlands since it was established in 2021.
