Swansea care home hosts VIP visitors

STAFF and residents at Awel y Mor Care Home in Swansea were delighted to welcome a whole host of esteemed guests to the home for a tour followed by afternoon tea. 

The Mayor and Mayoress of Swansea, Paxton and Patricia Hood-Williams, the Mayor of Gorseinon, Sue Rawle, local MP, Tonia Antoniazzi, Councillor Andrew Stephens and the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan, Melanie James visited the home to meet the residents and the staff and find out all about life at Awel-Y-Mor.

It was the first visit to the home, which is rated Excellent by the Care Inspectorate Wales, for the Mayor and Mayoress of Swansea. They were very impressed with the facilities and services the home offers. Everyone had a tour of the home, including the physio gym, they learned about the classes the home runs for residents such as Boccia club, adaptive Tai Chi and laughter yoga. The staff explained how the residents each have a personalised care plan which meets their individual needs.

The visitors, staff and residents then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of home-baked cakes and pastries made by the home’s talented hospitality tea where everyone got to chat and relax together.

Rachael Thomas, Acting General Manager of Awel y Mor, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome so many wonderful guests to our home and to be able to show off our fantastic facilities. 

“We’re all so proud of our home and we love to show it off whenever we can.  We very much hope to see everyone again very soon, our doors are always open.”

Awel y Mor care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, who are committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Awel y Mor provides residential and nursing care for 58 residents from respite breaks to long term stays.
