A SWANSEA councillor said he feared damage to his parked car was done deliberately.
Cllr Stuart Rice said he discovered a hole in the windscreen of his Dacia Sandero Stepway when he went to drive it on the morning of Friday, February 14.
He also said he cut his finger when he tried to open the passenger front door but it’s not clear how the cut was sustained.
Cllr Rice said nothing was taken from the car, which had been parked overnight on Langland Terrace, Brynmill. He said there wasn’t evidence of damage to other vehicles nearby.
Cllr Rice said he was shocked, and encouraged anyone who might have seen something to contact South Wales Police.
He said: “The police and council have been very supportive, and we are looking together at ways that I can improve the security for my home and car after it is repaired.” He added that he’d also received fire safety advice.
Cllr Rice is an Uplands Party councillor serving the Uplands ward. He was elected three years ago. In the past he had represented the Liberal Democrats.
Uplands Party leader, Cllr Peter May, said: “I can fully empathise with my friend Stuart on this one relating to when I suffered the misfortune of the car being burnt outside my house in 2009. When it happened to me, I my thoughts were not as a victim but a determination not to let down the people that relied on me.”
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended Langland Terrace, Brynmill, at around 9am on Friday, February 14, following a report of vehicle damage.
“House-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being conducted in order to find the perpetrator, while CSI (crime scene investigation officers) have also attended.
“The local neighbourhood policing team have been conducting high-visibility patrols in the area to reassure the community.”
