Swansea man imprisoned for exposure at supermarket

A SWANSEA man with 83 previous convictions has been sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on Monday (Oct 28) for indecent exposure. Reymond John, 41, of Griffith John Street, Waun Wen, Swansea, received a nine-month sentence, reduced to six months with credit. He will serve three months in custody, followed by three months under probation.

The incident occurred a month ago at 9:30am when John exposed himself to staff members in Tesco on High Street, Swansea, leaving them “shocked.” Members of the public observed him intoxicated and disorderly at the scene.

John’s criminal history includes multiple offences, with previous convictions for public exposure, including a similar incident in 2010. Due to his repeated offences, John will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of seven years.

Judge P.H. Thomas KC remarked: “This is a category 3 offence under the guidelines, clearly aggravated by your dreadful record, especially considering you were arrested less than 48 hours after release.”

Judge Thomas indicated that John’s release after the holidays would better protect the public, noting that alcohol is a significant factor in his behaviour. He advised John to abstain from drinking and work with probation officers upon release to avoid reoffending. “The only thing I can think of is to keep you out of the public eye,” Judge Thomas added, urging: “When you come out, you need to not drink; you need to get help, otherwise, it will happen again and again.”
