A WELSH-only school near Llandudno wants to build an extension to increase its capacity.
Ysgol Y Creuddyn has submitted a planning application to Conwy County Council, seeking permission to increase the size of the school.
The school on Derwen Lane in Penryhn Bay wants to construct a two-storey extension, consisting of three new classrooms, toilets, store rooms, and five new parking spaces.
The plans also include two external new doors leading to existing toilets in the existing building.
The plans detail a building constructed from brown/orange brick with an exterior render with a roughcast finish, natural roof slates, and UPVC windows.
Ysgol Y Creuddyn is the only designated Welsh medium secondary school in Conwy county.
The school opened in 1981 with 218 children and has steadily increased to 645 pupils aged between 11 and 18.
Ysgol Y Creuddyn currently employs 44 full-time members of staff and 33 part-timers.
If the extension gets the go-ahead, this number will increase to 47 full-time and 35 part-time staff.
But Mrs D. McLaughlin of Llanrhos Road, Penrhyn Bay, has written to the council objecting to the plans.
“After reviewing the planning application, my only concern is that extending the school means more pupils,” she said.
“I live on Llanrhos Road, and on school drop off and pick up, my drive is often blocked with cars, and the road becomes gridlocked.
“I have not been able to get in or out of my drive on occasions due to parents parking up and attending the school.
“If emergency services were required, it would be impossible for them to drive down the street. Could planning be included to open up the playground to allow to drop off/pick up within that area, rather than extra car parking?”
The application will be debated by councillors at a future Conwy planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb.
