Knighton Gaza ceasefire demonstrations continue

UPSET local residents gathered in Knighton on Saturday (Feb 17) to once more call for an end to the Gaza conflict.

The UK and US were among the countries who recently cut off aid to United Nations Relief and Works Agency because of unproven allegations that a very few UNRWA employees were involved with Hamas.

The remaining civilian population in Gaza is trying to survive without aid, food, or medical facilities while still under 24 hour bombardment.

Pam Grounds local resident said, “I am here to do something even though it is small to try to stop the unimaginable killing and suffering in Gaza especially to all the children.”

Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed at least 28,858 Palestinians and wounded 68,667 since October 7. Many more are still unaccounted for under debris.

The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas-led attacks stands at 1,139.
Gaza’s largest functioning hospital in Khan Younis remains under siege by Israeli troops with reports of medical staff being beaten and aid being blocked.

Resident Sheila Clarke said, ” I am angry at the way our opposition to the destruction of Gaza is being equated with being antisemitic. We are not racists, just ordinary people appalled at what is happening and that it is being supported by our government.”

Powys activist Angie Zelter stated, “I have always recognised that the Hamas assault on Israeli civilians was an horrific war crime that should be condemned by everyone.

“However, retaliatory war crimes that have now increased into genocide cannot ever be justified. We need an immediate ceasefire and an end to the illegal occupation of Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem.”

The huge London demonstrations are ongoing.Next week it will be held in Craven Arms at the roundabout as usual at 11.30am.
