Popular Swansea restaurant ‘Bangkok’ announces shock closure after two years

A BELOVED restaurant in Swansea has announced it will be closing its doors for good next month, much to the disappointment of its loyal customers. Bangkok, located on Uplands Crescent in the Uplands area, will serve its final meals on Sunday, 3rd November.

Run by chefs April and Chris Napier, the restaurant has been a popular addition to Swansea’s dining scene since it opened in 2022. Prior to establishing Bangkok, the couple operated Bangkok Express, a well-loved takeaway on Walter Road, for more than five years.

In a heartfelt statement addressed to their “valued customers”, April and Chris expressed the difficulty of their decision to close the restaurant: “It is with a heavy heart and this may come as a shock that we announce the closing of our restaurant. Our last day of service will be Sunday, November 3. Please note, any vouchers purchased must be used by this date, as no refunds will be available thereafter.”

The couple shared that the decision was made in part to regain a better work-life balance, having sacrificed much family time over the years. They added, “As much as we have loved serving you over the years (five years in the takeaway and two years in the restaurant), we have made the difficult decision to step away as we have sacrificed a lot of family times and now we would love to focus on our family/work life balance.”

However, they were quick to reassure patrons that this wasn’t the end of their culinary journey, hinting at future ventures. “We plan to return with pop-ups in the near future and can’t wait to share more meals and moments with you,” they said, before thanking their customers for their unwavering support. “Thank you so much for your incredible support to our little family business and for being a part of our journey. We can honestly say we’ve made lots of great memories and achieved so much during the years, as well as some customers that we’ve come to be friends with. These will be treasured forever.”

Bangkok has built a strong reputation for its authentic Thai cuisine, offering a range of stir-fries, soups, salads, sharing platters, and snacks such as prawn tempura, chicken satay, grilled pork, and dim sum, which have become firm favourites among diners in the area.

As the countdown begins to its final day of service, customers are encouraged to visit the restaurant before it closes, and redeem any vouchers they may have before 3rd November.

Though the closure marks the end of an era for the Napiers’ time at Uplands, it seems there will be more to look forward to from the talented duo in the future.
