SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a new initiative to encourage walkers to leave their cars at home.
Mr Rowlands is supporting Denbighshire County Council Tourism Department’s newly published ‘8 Sustainable Walks: Discover Denbighshire by Bus’, to help keen walkers leave their cars at home to discover more of the county’s sights and sounds.
He said: “I am always keen to promote different ways to encourage people to get out and about in the countryside and this new publication is a great idea.
“In Denbighshire we have some lovely walks and beautiful scenic countryside which is a great attraction for walkers and it is good to see more being done to highlight this.
“I know that it is not always possible to find a walk which can be reached by bus but hopefully this new publications will encourage people to do so.”
A new series of Denbighshire walks are encouraging walkers to try out more sustainable routes.
Produced by Denbighshire County Council Tourism Department, the newly published ‘8 Sustainable Walks: Discover Denbighshire by Bus’, has been developed to help keen walkers leave their cars at home to discover more of the county’s sights and sounds.
The walks were created by Julie Brominicks, with the county’s bus services in mind. Julie, who was an educator at the Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth, is known for writing ‘The Edge of Cymru’ the story of her walk around Wales in the course of a year.
Arranged in order with the shortest first, each with its own map, they’re accompanied by Julie’s descriptions.
The walks featured in Denbighshire’s book take in some of the most picturesque areas including the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Llangollen Canal World Heritage Site. They also start and finish near a bus stop, so walkers can leave the car at home.
