FOR THE FOURTH consecutive year, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Tourism & Events programmes have earned national recognition as finalists in the Institute of Hospitality (IoH) Awards, a true testament to their continued excellence and impact in the sector.
In a proud milestone for 2025, the team has been named double finalists: for Best Education Programme, which they triumphantly won in 2023, and Best Talent Development Team, marking another significant achievement for UWTSD. Both nominations place the university in esteemed company, competing with some of the most influential and established players in the global hospitality industry.
The recognition highlights UWTSD’s innovative approach to immersive learning and their industry-first collaborations, particularly through their partnership with Swansea Arena. Through a dynamic blend of industry engagements, live events projects, volunteering opportunities, and international field trips, students are offered real-world experiences that transcend traditional classroom teaching.
Jacqui Jones Programme Manager, International Travel, Tourism, Events & Festivals Management Portfolio said: “A huge thank you goes to the dedicated staff team, passionate students, supportive alumni, and the Digital Learning Team at UWTSD, who enabled students to engage in simulated training experiences using the digital technology at the University’s Immersive Room.
“And to our supportive partners; Swansea Arena and the Institute of Travel & Tourism which our students worked with collaboratively to host another record-breaking Future You Wales conference and careers fair, and the GWR-funded All Aboard Educational Project.
“Their collective contribution has been instrumental in driving forward the university’s educational mission and earning national acclaim.”
The Institute of Hospitality’s Annual Awards are a global celebration of talent, innovation, and excellence across the hospitality sector. Winners will be announced at a prestigious black-tie gala dinner on June 16 at the iconic JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.
Reflecting on the event, IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH MI shared: “These awards are the highlight of our calendar year, providing a global platform to celebrate the incredible talent, innovation, and dedication of hospitality professionals and businesses.
“I am thrilled that organisations worldwide will once again have the opportunity to showcase their achievements and be recognised for their outstanding contributions.”
As anticipation builds for the awards ceremony, UWTSD’s Tourism & Events programmes continue to set the standard for excellence in education and talent development within the hospitality sector.
