Critically acclaimed solo play JARMAN comes to Newport for one night only

AFTER a highly successful UK tour and international performances in Hong Kong, Mark Farrelly’s acclaimed solo show JARMAN arrives at The Riverfront Theatre in Newport for one unmissable night on Thursday 22 May.

This powerful 80-minute performance celebrates the life and legacy of Derek Jarman — visionary filmmaker, painter, writer, gardener, and LGBTQ+ activist. From the pop glamour of Soho to the windswept isolation of Prospect Cottage, JARMAN charts the extraordinary journey of a boundary-pushing artist who defied convention and inspired generations.

Written and performed by Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope, Howerd’s End) and directed by Sarah-Louise Young, JARMAN offers a dazzling, daring encounter with one of Britain’s most iconic and radical creatives.

Farrelly’s tour-de-force performance breathes new life into the man behind cult films like Sebastiane, Jubilee and Caravaggio, the haunting final film Blue, and his deeply personal battle with AIDS – which he faced with courage, wit and unflinching creativity.
