A former Conservative MP is set to stand trial after pleading not guilty to allegations of harassing her ex-wife.
Katie Wallis, formerly known as Jamie Wallis, appeared before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing accusations of harassment without violence. The charges relate to a series of alleged incidents involving Rebecca Wallis, said to have occurred between 14 February and 21 March this year.
Wallis, 40, is accused of repeatedly contacting her former partner through unwanted phone calls, messages and voice notes, as well as allegedly driving past her home. The court heard that no evidence was offered in relation to an earlier charge of stalking.
During proceedings, Wallis addressed the court, stating: “Legally I am known as Jamie, but I prefer to be known as Katie.”
Wallis made history in Parliament as the first MP to openly begin the process of gender transitioning. She served as the Member of Parliament for Bridgend from 2019 until 2024.
Defence barrister Narita Bahra KC informed the court she would be seeking a psychiatric report for her client ahead of the trial.
Magistrates adjourned the case until 17 June, when it is expected to be heard in full.
