BRIDGEND Council is set to consult on new guidance for the creation of outdoor recreational areas on new housing developments across the county borough.
The new guidance will look to outline what sort of recreational spaces, such as sports pitches and other play areas, would have to be delivered by developers when creating new housing estates in Bridgend county borough in the future.
The discussions came at a recent council cabinet meeting where members were told about the the policies that aimed to “ensure that developments remain sustainable and can support the needs of the community long-term”.
This could include examples where 1.2 hectares of playing pitches would have to be provided per 1,000 population along with 1.6 hectares for other sports plus play areas and allotment provision.
Officers said it would also help to address pressures on existing facilities due to population growth in the area with the guidance applying to all new residential developments.

Additionally it could allow the authority to seek financial contributions where on-site provision isn’t feasible for outdoor areas with further advice on how to calculate financial contributions from developers for long-term maintenance of the sites.
The report was later approved unanimously by members in attendance and will now go out to formal consultation.
This came alongside a separate report which was approved for planning guidance over affordable housing.
