Dafen too good for Bronwydd

DAFEN ended the season with victory as they beat Bronwydd by 43 runs on Saturday (Aug 25).

Dafen won the toss and elected to bat but they were restricted to 155 all out inside 49 overs.

They lost opener Jonathan Randell early on when he was caught by Oliver Furneaux off the bowling of Matthew Vaughan on a score of 3.

Simon Davies added 7 to the total before he was bowled by Tom Gleeson.

Matthew Evans and Nicky Davies then shared 35 for the third wicket before Evans was caught by Vaughan off the bowling of Pauluge Gihan Secstus Fernando on a score of 30.

Jonathon Wastell did not last long at the crease as he was bowled by George Gleeson for a score of 1. Gethin Long added ten for Dafen but he was also bowled by Gleeson.

David Dunfee scored 18 from17 balls with two fours and a six but he was then trapped leg before by Gleeson.

Jamie Mansel added 11 with two fours but he was then caught by Gleeson off the bowling of James Cale.

Davies had made a patient 43 with four boundaries but he was then bowled by Matthew Vaughan.

Tom Gleeson then returned to have Kai Rees caught by Meirion Davies on a score of 7 and he also bowled Philip George on a score of 1.

That left Dafen all out on 155 and Bronwydd would have been confident of getting the 156 runs needed to win the game.

Openers James Cale and James Dickson got Bronwydd off to a good start as they shared 35 runs.

David Dunfee made the breakthrough for Dafen as he trapped Dickson leg before on a score of 13.

Matthew Evans then bowled George Gleeson on a score of 4 and he then trapped Cale leg before on a score of 37.

Philip George then bowled Jacob Jenkinson for a duck leaving Bronwydd on 58-4.

Jonathan Randell then had Gareth John caught by Daniel Vaughan and the same bowler then had Oliver Furneaux caught by Nicky Davies on a score of 21.

Randell then had Meirion Davies caught by Vaughan for a three-ball duck and he also had Fernando caught by Gethin Long for a two-ball duck as Bronwydd slipped to 86-8.

Dafydd Morgan and Matthew Vaughan did their best to get Bronwydd to their total with a stand of 16 but Vaughan was then caught and bowled by Kai Rees on a score of 10.

Morgan was then caught by Vaughan off the bowling of Long on a score of 13 and Bronwydd’s innings came to a close with them all out for 112.
