A NUMBER of homes have been evacuated in Newcastle Emlyn because of a risk of flooding.
Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police and crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service carried out the evacuation of homes on Teifi Terrace, Adpar, this afternoon over concerns the street could flood.
Natural Resources Wales has issued a flood warning for the area, however, despite the advice of emergency services, some residents chose to remain in their properties.Chief Inspector Jacqui Lovatt said: “Those who decided not to leave were given appropriate safety advice – to move to the upper floor and that any valuables, essentials and food are taken upstairs.”
Those who evacuated have been offered refuge at a reception centre opened by Ceredigion County Council.
A spokeswoman for Ceredigion County Council said: “Following a decision earlier today by a multi-agency response group to evacuate a number of residential properties in Adpar, Ceredigion County Council opened its designated Emergency Rest Centre at Llandysul at 3pm to accommodate residents.
“However, many residents decided to remain in their homes whilst others went to stay with relatives and friends. Consequently, the Emergency Rest Centre was stood down at 6pm, with an option to re-open should the need arise.”
Dyfed-Powys Police is working with partner agencies across the force area to minimise the disruption caused by flood water, with a number of flood warnings remaining in place this evening.
