Mobile libraries could be shelved

libraries shelvedTHE COUNTY COUNCIL’S Cabinet is set to discuss the future of three mobile libraries at a meeting on Monday.

They will look into the future of the service which is projected to cost £101,000 next year.

In the report to cabinet members it says:

“The mobile fleet is old and prone to regular breakdown.

“The service has a small number of regular users (1,343), representing approximately 1% of the Pembrokeshire population”.

Regular users are defined as those who have used the service at least four times in a 12 month period.  Analysis of those users suggests that the vast majority are in communities with high levels of car ownership.

Council officers recommended a review of the mobile library service and that a report, setting out the recommendations, is brought back before Cabinet members.
