Cymru hope for positive future as Joe Rodon’s club destiny looms

TOTTENHAM defender Joe Rodon is facing an uncertain future as he returns to the club for pre-season under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Rodon’s loan spell with Rennes in Ligue 1 didn’t go as planned, with the French club opting not to sign him permanently for £18 million. With Postecoglou taking charge at Tottenham, Rodon’s club future is up in the air.

Despite his struggles at Rennes, Rodon has been a consistent performer for the Welsh national team, earning 37 caps. However, his lack of regular football took a toll on his form, evident in the recent 4-2 Euro 2024 qualifying loss to Armenia, where he had an error-strewn display. Rodon did put in a better performance in the subsequent 2-0 loss to Turkey, even though Wales played with ten men for almost an hour.

With the upcoming season looming, a decision regarding Rodon’s club destination needs to be made in the next few weeks. Cymru manager Robert Page expressed his belief that Rodon is eager to play regular football and hopes to have some say in his next move. Page said, “He will want to play games because I know him as a character. He’ll want to play week in, week out. That’s up to the club now. I’d imagine he will do a pre-season there, and then they will make a decision on what’s best for him next year. If we can have a little bit of input in that then great.”

As Rodon prepares for pre-season at Tottenham, all eyes will be on the club’s decision regarding his future and whether Wales’ input will play a role in shaping his career path.
