Empty Homes Grant Scheme available in Ceredigion

FINANCIAL support is available to renovate empty houses and make them fit for living in the twenty first century.

Ceredigion County Council is pleased to announce that the local authority will be taking part in the Welsh Government’s National Empty Homes Grants Scheme.

Councillor Matthew Vaux is the Cabinet Member for Partnerships, Housing, Legal and Governance and Public Protection. He welcomed the National Empty Homes Grant Scheme and added: “There are approximately 800+ long term empty properties in Ceredigion at present, during a time where there is a shortage of supply across the county. Empty properties are often expensive to remedy and contribute to the decline of an area, but they are also an underused community asset when there is a shortage of housing.

We are committed to supporting individuals to bring empty homes back in to use to help regenerate communities and provide much-needed affordable housing for individuals across the county.”

Grants of up to £25,000 are available for homeowners or prospective homeowners to renovate empty houses to make them safe to live in and improve their energy efficiency.

To qualify for the grant, the following criteria must be met:

  • The empty home must be located within Ceredigion local authority area.
  • The home must currently be registered with the authority’s Council Tax Department as vacant (unoccupied and unfurnished) for at least a 12-month period.
  • Applicants must be owners or prospective owners, who intend to occupy the empty home as their main and only residence, for a minimum of 5-years
  • The owner must meet the Local Connection criteria in Ceredigion.
  • Please note, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council are administering the grants on behalf of Welsh Government and Ceredigion County Council.
