EMPLOYEES at PCI Pharma Services will be teeing off in aid of Wales Air Ambulance at the end of the month and need your support!
They will be rallying teams from across their three sites in Wales to compete in a golf day at Builth Wells Golf Club on Saturday May 31. But this year the company is also extending the invitation to local companies and keen golfers to get involved too.
Staff at the pharmaceutical company’s Hay-on-Wye base nominated the lifesaving service for a two-year Charity Partnership which ends in June and to date has raised over £7,800.
PCI’s Golf Day is being organised by employee Sherrie Edwards and her husband, Simon, a golf professional and club secretary at Builth Wells Golf Club.
Sherrie has worked for PCI Pharma Services for 24 years and is the Warehouse Supervisor Post Operation.

A keen golfer, Sherrie, recently won the County Championship in Mid Wales and is organising the event at the end of the month.
She said: “I am passionate about Wales Air Ambulance; I play the monthly lottery. So, it’s great to be able to organise a golf day in aid of a charity that I support outside of work as well.”
The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. It is delivered via a unique third sector and public sector partnership.
The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
Sherrie said: “The Wales Air Ambulance is such an incredible service, it has supported so many families and will continue to do so in the rural area that we live, for many years to come.
“That’s why it is so important for us to be able to support the work it does by raising as much money as we can as part of our Charity partnership.”
The mum of three, has been playing golf for thirty years, and got her handicap at the age of eleven.
She said: “I’m passionate about the sport, and I love to encourage others to give it a go too.
“It’s a great way to switch off and unwind. I am so fortunate to have been club captain at Builth Wells, and also county captain for Mid Wales for 3 seasons.
“I recently won the County Championship for the third time in my career. That happened a few weeks ago, and it’s the first time I’ve done so as a mum.”
PCI’s Golf Day at Builth Wells Golf Club will be the fifth event Sherrie has organised. She says it’s turning into a ‘real team effort’.
She said: “I work with such a great group of people, and we’ve built up strong friendships over the years.
“We have three sites across Wales, so events like this are a great way of bringing all our teams together from our other locations in Tredegar and Bridgend.
“Our Managing Director, Mark Kingdom is a passionate golfer and is doing a really good job drumming up support across the group.”
Builth Wells Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course and will be hosting a team of four competition. Juniors through to seniors can take part and the teams can be mixed.
Sherrie is keen to open this year’s event to the wider community and is hoping golfers will come out in force to support their fundraiser.

Her husband Simon is a golf professional and the club secretary at Builth Wells and is the point of contact for any external local companies or players who wish to take part.
She said: “It would be great if we could get more people from outside of our company to join and support our event in aid of Wales Air Ambulance.
“Simon, is helping organise the tee off times, so if anyone outside of PCI Pharma Services would like to get involved, they can contact him at Builth Wells Golf Club.”
She added: “The club are fantastically supportive, and we are very grateful that they are allowing us to have courtesy of the course. It means that all the funds raised will go solely to Wales Air Ambulance.”
There will also be a raffle, and prizes awarded during the event. Sherrie said: “If you are not a golfer and are unable to come you can still support in other ways.
“I would be grateful of any donations people are able to give which can be used as prizes or go towards our raffle. It could be anything from pledging a night away in an Airbnb or a bottle of wine or chocolates.”
Kate Thomas, Regional Fundraising Manager for Powys said: “We are so grateful for PCI’s support over the past two years. It’s wonderful that this year’s golf day is being opened to the wider public to take part, helping to raise even more awareness and money for our lifesaving service.
“We would like to extend our thanks to everyone at the Hay site, but also to the wider team at Tredegar and Bridgend, for supporting this event. Every pound raised on the day will make such a difference and will help save lives.”
