21-year-old addict jailed for dealing ketamine inside nightclub

Luke Williams

A 21-year-old has been jailed by a Swansea Crown Court judge after admitting selling ketamine to people inside a nightclub.

Luke Williams was ejected from the Port Talbot club by door staff on the night of February 11.

As he was being escorted outside, one of the security guards noticed that he had dropped two large plastic bags containing white powder. Police were alerted and Williams was arrested and taken to a custody suite.

During the investigation, officers confirmed that the powder was ketamine and four more bags of the drug were found inside his underpants. Williams was also in possession of over £300 in cash.

A subsequent search was made of his grandmother’s house.

Inside Luke Williams’ bedroom police discovered a River Island bag with more bags containing over half a kilo of ketamine, a weighing scales containing white residue and three bottles of codeine syrup which had been imported from the USA. The syrup was marked as being not fit for household use.

The total amount of ketamine discovered in the property amounted to 610.981 grams which had a street value of up to £24,000.

Williams pleaded guilty to possessing ketamine with intent to supply it to others, possessing cocaine, possessing cannabis and possessing the Class B drug, codeine.

But Williams’ defence counsel, Andrew Evans, KC, stressed that the defendant was unlikely to make any financial gain from the drug.

“He was not making any substantial gain, but quite the opposite,” he said.

“He’s a ketamine addict with the result that his use of the drug spiraled out of control. He had a substantial debt and owed in the region of £4,250.”

Andrew Evans went on to say that Williams’s life has now changed direction.

“He’s on a drug-free programme and has the insight to understand the path that his life was taking,” he said.

“He’s now making his first tentative steps to improve his life.”

Imposing sentence was Judge Paul Thomas.

“When you started dealing, you knew what the sentence would be if, and when, you were caught, and yet you continued to deal in that knowledge,” he said.

” This is what happens when you get involved in this very dirty business.”

Williams, of Silver Avenue, Sandfields, Port Talbot was jailed for two years and four months. He will serve half of this sentence in custody while the remainder will be spent on licence in the community.
