A taste of rural Carmarthenshire took centre stage in Westminster Hall at a special celebration organised by the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) in collaboration with Carmarthen MP Ann Davies.

‘Carmarthenshire Day’ welcomed a wide range of MPs, Lords, and distinguished guests to experience the richness and diversity of the region’s food, drink, and crafts. Nine renowned local producers took part in the event, including:

  • Bremenda Isaf
  • Tregroes Waffles
  • Brecon Carreg
  • Castell Howell
  • Coaltown Coffee
  • Mêl Gwenyn Gruffydd
  • Caws Cenarth
  • Carmarthen Ham
  • The Welsh Wool Shop

The producers showcased their goods while engaging with key political figures, providing a valuable platform to highlight the excellence and challenges of rural Welsh industries.

The event was officially opened by Dame Nia Griffith MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the UK Government’s Wales Office, and MP for Llanelli.

Prominent attendees included Ruth Jones MP, Chair of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee; Alistair Carmichael MP, Chair of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Committee; and Victoria Atkins MP, Shadow Secretary of State for DEFRA. Over 35 FUW members and supporters from Carmarthenshire also made the journey to Westminster for the celebration.

Ann Davies MP, who has chaired the FUW Carmarthenshire branch since 2023, said:

“Carmarthenshire is a county built on hard work, innovation, and community. It was a huge privilege to bring our producers to Westminster to showcase what makes our part of Wales so special.

This event was about more than just products – it was about giving rural voices the platform they deserve and reminding Westminster of the value of communities like ours, both economically and culturally.”

The celebration comes at a significant time, as 2025 marks 70 years since the founding of the FUW in Carmarthenshire in December 1955.

FUW President Ian Rickman added:

“This is a milestone year for the Farmers’ Union of Wales.

Working alongside Ann Davies MP, we were proud to support such a successful event, bringing a flavour of West Wales to the heart of Westminster.

It was heartening to see the event so well attended, providing not only an opportunity to enjoy outstanding Welsh produce, but also a valuable lobbying platform to highlight the challenges and changes facing Welsh farmers today.”
