‘Girl on the line’ delays Milford Haven to Haverfordwest train by an hour

PASSENGERS on a Milford Haven to Haverfordwest train were delayed for more than an hour in Merlins Bridge after a female ran onto the railway tracks on Easter Sunday evening (Apr 17).

Police told passengers on the train that the quick thinking of the driver averted tragedy – with police arriving at the scene shortly afterwards.

The 17:30HRS train from Milford Haven had been delayed by some 20 minutes, leaving the station at 17:50HRS according to passengers onboard.

A witness on the train, part of a party heading to ‘Flaming Bingo’ at Haverfordwest Showground, said: “The train came to a sudden halt near the sewerage works, but we didn’t know anything except we had stopped until the police got into the train and said that they had found a girl near the tracks, in the bushes.

“Police said she was going to jump in front of the train to end her life, but because the train was going so slowly, changed her mind.”

Police and Transport for Wales have been contacted for an official statement.

The witness added: “We don’t mind we were delayed on our night out, we are just glad the girl is okay”
