Pembrokeshire closes six schools after Cardigan Covid outbreak

FIVE schools in north Pembrokeshire will close tomorrow after an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the Cardigan area.

The schools affected in Pembrokeshire are all near the Pembrokeshire/Cardigan border.

Ysgol y Frenni, Ysgol y Preseli, Ysgol Clydau (Tegryn), Ysgol Cilgerran, Ysgol Eglwyswrw and Ysgol Llandudoch (St Dogmaels) will be closed tomorrow and no date has yet been set for them to reopen.

The decision follows a significant number of cases in and around the town of Cardigan and concerns about a high rate of community transmission.

Cardigan is the main shopping centre for towns and villages along the Teifi estuary and north-eastern Pembrokeshire.

It is thought that a number of ‘super spreader’ events lie behind the increase.

Earlier today (Sunday, Nov 22), the Cardigan Incident Management Team decided to close schools in and near the town. Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi, Ysgol Gynradd Penparc, Ysgol
Gynradd Aberporth, Ysgol Gynradd T.Llew Jones, Ysgol Gynradd Llechryd; and Ysgol Gynradd Cenarth.

This evening, Pembrokeshire County Council decided to close schools along the border area as a precautionary measure.

The Flying Start Nurseries in Cardigan and Aberporth will also be closed until Monday, December 7.
