Tributes have poured in for Meyrick Sheen, described as a “one of a kind” man, following an emotional statement from his son Michael.
Welsh actor Michael Sheen has announced the death of his father, Meyrick Sheen, in a moving statement shared on social media. The news, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, 11 May, was met with an outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers.
Sharing a photo of his father alongside the statement, the Good Omens and Twilight star wrote:
“On behalf of my family it is with heartbreaking sadness that I mark the passing of my beautiful father Meyrick Sheen today.
We were with him throughout. There will never be anyone like him.
RIP Meyrick Sheen (1940 – 2025).”
In a follow-up message, Sheen expressed gratitude to the medical and care staff who supported his father in his final days:
“Thank you to the amazing staff at Swn Y Mor care home and Morriston & NPT hospitals.
Your kindness made all the difference. That beautiful portrait is by Roo Lewis. He loved it and so do we. X.”
Fans responded in their hundreds, offering condolences and sharing memories of Meyrick.
One tribute read: “I am so sorry and sad to hear this. Your dad was such a lovely, warm and very genuine man. I always thoroughly enjoyed chatting to him, and he was always very generous with his time. He really was one of a kind. Thinking of you all, especially your lovely mum Irene.”
Another supporter wrote: “I’m truly sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family during this time.”

Meyrick Sheen was a personnel manager with the British Steel Corporation. He raised his family in Port Talbot, where Michael grew up with his father, mother Irene, and sister Joanne.
