A man has denied responsibility for the death of a six-month-old baby girl who died after being struck by a car in a multi-storey car park in west Wales.
Flaviu Naghi, 34, appeared at Swansea Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to two charges relating to the death of Sophia Kelemen. The charges include causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs.
Sophia, who was from the Leigh area of Greater Manchester, was seriously injured on the ground floor of a car park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on 2 January. She was taken to hospital but died the following day from her injuries.
During a brief court appearance, Mr Naghi, of Rondini Avenue in Luton, Bedfordshire, spoke only to confirm his name and to enter his pleas. The hearing was presided over by Judge Catherine Richards, who adjourned the case and granted conditional bail. A trial is scheduled to begin on 2 June and is expected to last for one week.
Prosecutor Tom Crowther KC represented the Crown, while John Hipkin KC appeared on behalf of the defendant.
An earlier inquest opening at Pembrokeshire Coroner’s Court heard that Sophia died as a result of an “intracranial haemorrhage” sustained in the collision.
The case continues.
