Police issue safety warning after series of near-misses involving trains in North Wales

BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE is urging members of the public to take extra care when they are out and about over the Christmas and New Year period.

It follows an increase in near-misses where people have only narrowly avoided being hit by trains in parts of North Wales, including on a stretch of railway between Llandulas in Conwy and Talacre in Flintshire.

North Wales Inspector, Karl Anderson, said: “We are urging everybody to take extra care when using railway level crossings over the festive period and into the New Year.

“This time of year, people may be out celebrating the Christmas and New Year period with alcohol involved, which can lead to poor decision making.

“The rail network can be a dangerous place, which is why people need to do the right thing when using railway level crossing and, under no circumstances, should anyone ever trespass. Trespassing on the rail network is not only illegal and dangerous, but it can be lethal.

“In particular, we have seen an increase in near misses on the rail network between Talacre (Flintshire) and Llandulas in the Conwy area in recent months, so we would urge extra caution in this area in particular.”
