Police update following reports of dining and dashing in restaurants across South Wales

South Wales police have recently arrested two individuals in connection with a series of dining and dashing incidents across several restaurants in south Wales. It is estimated that around seven restaurants, primarily in Swansea and Cowbridge, have been affected.

The issue came to light when the newly-opened Bella Ciao restaurant in Swansea reported a family’s alleged failure to pay a £329 bill. Following this disclosure, other establishments, such as La Casona in Skewen, near Swansea, shared similar experiences. La Casona reported an incident in February where a group of six individuals left without paying a £300 bill. The Yard in Cowbridge also reported an alleged incident involving an unpaid bill of £151 from March this year.

In response to these allegations, South Wales Police arrested a 41-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman from Sandfields, Port Talbot on Tuesday, 23 April. They were taken into custody at Swansea Central police station, suspected of fraud (obtaining services dishonestly) and theft offences. A police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
