MUMBLES Rangers will play their first ever game in the West Wales Premier League on Saturday (Sept 4) and they will be looking to draw on inspiration from a Mumbles Paralympian.
Ben Pritchard finished fifth in his rowing event in Tokyo and now his home town team are looking to get up and running in the new competition.
Like Ben put a lot of work into getting to the Paralympics, there has also been a lot of work done behind the scenes to allow the Rangers to play in the West Wales Premier League.
At the age of 5, Ben was diagnosed with a congenital cataract which prohibited any future pursuit of contact sports.
Ben took up rowing at Mumbles Yacht Club and went on to represent Wales and Great Britain at a number of events.
However, in September 2016, Ben’s life was turned upside down when he sustained a spinal cord injury which left him paralysed from the waist down.
His remarkable journey took him to Tokyo and his excellent finish will have been well-received back home.
Ben, whose brother has links to Mumbles Rugby Club, lived next door to Mumbles Rangers Manager Eirian Rees who is now looking to lead his team to a winning start this Saturday.
The Rangers’ first game in the West Wales Premier League sees them host Penlan at Underhill Park with kick off at 3pm.
