Owens brace seals points for Vikings

HakinDragonsWest Dragons 1 Hakin United 3
TWO second half goals by Aaron Owens sealed the points for Hakin United at the Pavilion Playing Field on Saturday.
The West Dragons got off to a good start, putting the champions under early pressure. A few minutes after having a goal disallowed, a through ball found Johnny Horgan who made no mistake from close range.
Hakin replied by having a Gareth Fawcett goal disallowed for offside, but after continued pressure they pulled level on the 15 minute mark. A throw in found the head of Gareth Fawcett and after the ball had bobbled about it came to Michael Cooper who blasted in from six yards out.
Ten minutes later a through ball from Hakin’s Steve Mathias found Adam Davies in the box, but he fired wide.
On the 40-minute mark Horgan got onto a cross, but his chance was well saved by keeper James Manson.
The last play of the first half saw Justin Harding bring out a good save from Dragons keeper Andrew Mathias.
It was all Hakin in the second half, and after four minutes Harding headed just wide and a few minutes later Ewan Findlay had a good effort saved.
Fawcett got onto the end of a cross minutes later but he headed the ball straight into the hands of the keeper. Cooper nearly got his second a few minutes later, but this was also well saved by the keeper.
Vikings substitute Owens had a chance on the 30 minute mark, but this was again superbly saved by keeper Mathias.
Owens was proving to be a real threat on the left for Hakin and ten minutes from time he gave his team the lead when he came in from the wing and beat the Dragons keeper on his near post.
Owens made the points safe for the Vikings five minutes from time when a pass found him unmarked in the box and he slotted the ball home.
The West Dragons had their chances, but the league champions had too much class for them.
