Wrexham: New Racecourse Kop stand construction delayed

The new 5,500-seat stand at Wrexham’s Racecourse stadium will not be operational in time for next season. Commencement of construction on the Kop stand remains unspecified, with an estimated 12-month timeline for completion.

Despite securing financial support from the council, the club has not yet finalized funding for the project. Wrexham council has been contacted for a response.

The club expressed its optimism that negotiations with the council would conclude by the end of October. It acknowledged that several conditions needed to be met in the process.

These requirements encompass satisfying Uefa regulations, rerouting a sewer, and relocating an electricity cable that traverses the designated area.

The expansion project, set to increase Wrexham’s stadium capacity to 15,000, had its application for funding from the UK government’s Levelling Up Fund declined in January.

Previously, the council had announced its intention to allocate a significant portion of a £25 million grant from the Welsh government to support this initiative.

Mark Pritchard, the leader of the council, noted that the remaining funding would be obtained through a collaborative effort.

This partnership would involve contributions from the football club, the Football Association of Wales, and Transport for Wales, with enhancements planned for the local railway station and transportation infrastructure as well.
