Three dead, two seriously injured following search for group who went missing after night out

THREE people have died and two taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic collision.

A search was undertaken after a report of five people missing following a night out in St Mellons, Cardiff.

The five, three women and two men, were last seen in Cardiff in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The three women, Sophie Russon, 20, Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21, had travelled to Cardiff from Porthcawl in a Volkswagen Tiguan with Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Shane Loughlin, 32, both from Cardiff.

It is believed that the group had visited nightclubs in Maesglas, Newport, and were due to travel to Trecco Bay in Porthcawl.

Following a search for the five and the vehicle, Gwent Police have confirmed that they had located the vehicle in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

On Monday, March 6, Gwent Police issued a statement that the Vauxhall Tiguan had been found, stating that three members of the group were found deceased and the other two taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe that the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road traffic collision and came off the A48.

The families of those involved are being supported by specialist officers and the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in line with normal procedure.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “Following enquiries to locate five people who were reported as missing, officers have found the car they were last seen in, in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.
