Two individuals arrested in connection with the case of a missing teenager

Missing: Robert Williams then (L) and how he might look today (R)

In a significant development, police have taken a man and a woman into custody regarding the case of the missing teenager, Robert Williams, who vanished 21 years ago. The 15-year-old, hailing from Resolven, was last spotted on March 22, 2002.

On Tuesday evening a South Wales police spokesman said: “A 59-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were arrested early this morning and have since been bailed for further inquiries.”

“Robert’s mum Cheryl has been updated on these arrests and our thoughts are very much with Robert’s family at this difficult time. Our priority is supporting them whilst we work through this new line of inquiry in the investigation. We ask that their privacy is respected as our investigation continues.” said Detective inspector David Butt.

The arrests occurred within two weeks of the police launching a renewed plea for information concerning the disappearance. Robert had departed from his residence to attend a house gathering in Tair Felin, Aberdulais, and did not come back. Earlier this month his mother, Cheryl Davies, said: “I know that Robert is never coming home. I just want his body back so I can bury him. He deserves that. I don’t want him out there on his own and we need closure as a family.”

South Wales Police continue to encourage individuals with information that could aid their investigations to come forward.
